Why is technology so important?

In their position statement, the National Association for the Education of Young Children says that if the focus of education remains on the exploration rather than the technology, and when its use is transparent and seamless, it can enhance exploration in ways that traditional tools cannot.

In the interest of fostering an environment centered around discovering and exploring the wonders the natural world has to offer, incorporating technology into the routine of my classroom will allow my class, young as they may be to experience that magic more fully.

With voice typing to take real-time field notes as fast as they can speak, wireless microscopes that they can hold in their hands, and cameras to take pictures of interesting things they find outside, exploration can be deepened and enriched immensely.
